History

Aim

We believe that our children need to understand about how today’s society came to be. We want our curriculum to equip our children with the skills they need to question, compare and evaluate the actions of key figures and the impact these actions have had on changes to life through the ages.

At Joseph's, our History Curriculum develops children’s knowledge of historical periods, events and significant individuals, drawing from the National Curriculum. Children learn key facts and concepts alongside skills such as understanding chronology, analysing and evaluating historical evidence, learning how to empathise with people from different eras and how to compare and contrast life in different periods. Children study one topic each term, covering three topics across each academic year. In the first years of school, our children start by learning about topics which are familiar to themselves, before moving on to learning about historical achievements, settlement, changes to life in Britain and changes to social History.
