Year 2 - St Anselm

Welcome to St Anselm's class page.

We are so excited to begin a new school year together, filled with learning, friendship, and faith. In Year 2, we continue to grow not only in our reading, writing, and maths but also in our love for God and one another.

We look forward to sharing this special journey with you as we learn, play, and grow together in our loving Catholic school family, where all are welcome!

Important information

Reading & Phonics

Please read with your child everyday! Children who read regularly at home make more rapid progress in all subjects. Keep practising phonics daily at home!

Parents can help their child develop fluency and expression by reading together regularly. Take turns reading aloud, using different voices to bring characters and stories to life. Encourage your child to talk about what’s happening, predict what might come next, and share their opinions about the story. Ask simple questions to build understanding and discuss new words or ideas as they appear. Moving on from phonics, this helps children develop comprehension, expression, and a real enjoyment of reading.

Books will be changed at least once a week.

Spellings will be given out on a Friday and tested on the following Friday.

Water bottles

Please ensure your child brings a labelled water bottle to school each day, filled with water only (no juice).

Clothing

Please make sure all of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their name. This helps us quickly return any lost items to the right child.

PE

Please remember that St Anselm's PE lessons are Monday (indoors) and Friday (outdoors). As the weather is becoming colder, please ensure that your child has tracksuits bottoms for outdoor PE.

Homework

Homework is designed to reinforce and consolidate the learning covered during the week.

Homework is given every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. Please spend time with your child completing their tasks and sign the weekly homework sheet. If support is needed with homework please speak to a member of the St Anselm team.
